Tragedy occurred in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State, when suspected priests allegedly killed a 10-year-old girl whose parents were from Togo.

The incident happened around 7am on Thursday at Kilani Street, Iyana Iyesi District, Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, state.

It is understood that a neighbor friend of the victim’s mother sent the girl to her house to fetch charcoal.

However, as soon as the girl got home, she saw a few hooligans break into the house and robbed some property.

It is further understood that the girl tried to run away after seeing and recognizing them, but was unsuccessful as they reportedly grabbed her and killed her with a pestle.

A neighbor who did not want to be named said the killers, suspected ceremonial personnel hiding somewhere in the building, attacked her and smashed her head with a pestle.

The girl’s cries for help were brought to the attention of neighbors, but she died before anyone arrived on the scene, sources said.

Bolanle Sunmonu, a resident of the area, said neighbors were looking for the suspects, but they had left and were nowhere to be found.

Our reporter learned that the police had been alerted, but before they arrived at the scene to assess the situation, the suspect had already fled.

Another resident said: “The police have taken the victim’s body. I know this girl well, we used to call her mother. The suspect killed her in cold blood. At first, we thought it was a thief, but further investigation found that Guy is a ritualist.

“When we searched further, we found the man had a charm and a goat hidden in an empty house near the victim’s home. When we got there, we saw a goat. The goat attacked one of us. One, but was later killed. It was a sad incident,” another source said.

When contacted, State Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the incident.

Oyeyemi said the killers were armed robbers, not ceremonial personnel.

PPRO said: “It is true. The mother is Togolese and has a female friend who is Ghanaian. It was the Ghanaian woman who sent the girl to her house to fetch charcoal.

“When she got home, she met the robbers who identified her and didn’t want her to expose them. They killed her.

“Our men have combed all the areas and haven’t gotten them. This order will ensure they are arrested.”
