Cristiano Ronaldo wished Manchester United all the best as he left the club on Tuesday.
According to sources from the Premier League, Ronaldo felt it was time to seek a new challenge.
In a post on its verified Instagram page, the Premier League quoted Ronaldo as saying: “I love Manchester United, I love the fans and that will never change. It feels like it’s time for a new challenge. I wish everything for Manchester United. Well done,” the league called it “@christiano’s farewell message to @manchesterunited.”
United announced on Tuesday that Ronaldo will leave the club by mutual agreement with immediate effect.
However, the club are grateful for the Portuguese’s contribution over the two seasons, with 145 goals in 346 appearances.
This was revealed in a statement on the club’s official website on Tuesday.
Part of the statement read: “Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Manchester United by mutual agreement with immediate effect.
“The club thanks him for his tremendous contribution during his two seasons at Old Trafford, in which he scored 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family the very best for the future.
“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to achieve success on the pitch.”
