The company disclosed this when announcing its 2023 Black Voice Fund winners.It says there are now more than 650 Nigerians youtube Among the channels with more than 100,000 subscribers, there are 35 channels with more than 1 million subscribers.
The statistics further reveal Nigeria’s dominance, as South Africa and Kenya have only 300 and 400 channels respectively. It says, “In Nigeria, youtube Channels with seven-figure revenue or more (Naira) grew more than 60% year-over-year.
“In Nigeria, more than 650 channels have more than 100,000 subscribers, up more than 50% year-on-year. In Nigeria, 35 channels have more than 1 million subscribers, a year-on-year increase of 50%. Nigerian channels produce content that accounts for more than 75% of watch time from outside Nigeria.”
According to the company, the number of Kenyan channels earning seven figures or more has increased by more than 60%, while the number of South African channels earning six figures or more (ZAR) has increased by more than 40%.
Further deepening its expansion efforts on the African continent, the company announced that its 2023 #YouTubeBlack Voices consist of 15 Nigerians, 15 South Africans and 10 Kenyan creators.
According to YouTube, these creators will receive $20,000 and $50,000 in seed funding, six months of dedicated partner support, and the opportunity to participate in programs that run throughout the year.

“This program is dedicated to providing up-and-coming black creators and artists with the resources to succeed on our platform. We are very interested in the growth of the creative community in Africa. For the creators, artists, songwriters and producers who will be joining the third cohort people, we will go beyond initial training to measure our success in working with them long-term to ensure their continued success.”
According to the company, 40 creators from sub-Saharan Africa will be part of a global selection of 135 #YouTubeBlack Voices creators. It added that it intends to invest in over 500 creators and artists from around the world over the next few years through the #YouTubeBlack Voices Fund to support, grow and fund their channels and content development.
