On Wednesday, a traditional court in Jikwoy, Abuja, dissolved the 14-year marriage between Maxwell Chuka and his wife Christy, citing childlessness.
Judge Labaran Gusau ruled to dissolve the marriage on the grounds that both parties had lost interest in the union.
“It was recorded that both parties agreed to dissolve the marriage and the defendant also asked the court to grant her husband’s prayer for divorce.
“In view of this, the court has no choice but to grant the petitioner’s petition for divorce. The marriage is hereby dissolved.
“The petitioner also waved the N25,000 dowry he paid. Therefore, there is no need for the respondent to return it,” Rabalan said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Christie had agreed to dissolve the marriage on the grounds that he had also lost interest in it.
“I am exhausted in this marriage. I have tried my best to have children, but all attempts have failed.
“I went to different places and took different concoctions to no avail,” she said.
