The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, Kola Abiola, on Sunday, promised Nigerians that he would not bring the baggage of past administrations and recycled politicians into governance when elected.

Abiola, the heir to the late democratic icon and famous winner of the June 12, 1993 election, MKO Abiola, pledged during the Arise TV presidential debate at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.

Abiola describes himself as a breath of fresh air in Nigeria with no record of holding public office, but says he is the best person for the job.

He said: “We are going to the federal level from scratch because we are not burdened with any government or any political party. We want to use it to turn Nigeria around and fight for the people.

“I’ve never run for governor, state chair, or local government committee. I would say that over the years, the leadership has tried so many recycled and different people every time. Leaders stay at a party or they dance a party .

“But for the first time, we have a candidate in the PRP who has not been there and has not been in any party. Let’s try to solve Nigeria’s problems with fresh hands. Now security is an issue.

“We represent freshness, especially what it takes to ensure that those behind us have the opportunity to decide their own destiny in a united Nigeria.”
