President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired) has instructed Environment Minister Mohammed Abdullahi to represent him at the 27th UN Conference of the Parties as head of the Nigerian delegation.

Mohammed will lead other ministers and agency heads to the United Nations Climate Change Framework meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, in November, as directed by the president.

The environment minister will represent the president at the high-level meeting, Ibrahim Haruna, head of press and public relations at the federal environment ministry, said in a statement in Abuja.

Abdullahi will also deliver Nigeria’s national statement at the Cop27 plenary session, participate in bilateral meetings and side events on Nigeria’s energy transition plan, and other events, FME said.

“As Chairman of the Pan-African Great Green Wall Council of Ministers, he is expected to chair a high-level meeting of member states on GGW, together with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the Pan-African Great Green Wall,” FME said.

It said other ministers present with the environment minister included Federal Water Minister Suleiman Adamu; Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Mahmoud Abubakar.

It said Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance; Abubakar Aliyu, Minister of Electricity; Sadia Farouk, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development; and heads of other government agencies will be present.
