PDP vice presidential candidate and Delta state governor Ifeanyi Okowa said the PDP’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar had obtained permission from the debate organizers to be absent from the meeting.

Representative Atiku of Okowa said at an Arise TV town hall meeting on Sunday night that the presidential candidate would be present at the debate, saying today’s event was a meeting, not a debate.

PUNCH earlier reported that there was drama at the venue as some Nigerians attending the meeting only asked the presidential candidate to speak, saying Okova would be denied participation.

After calm was restored and the presidential debate started 45 minutes after its scheduled start, Okova said: “Atiku Abubakar has officially obtained permission from the town hall meeting organizer to have him present and officially granted permission.” Atiku Abubakar was abroad and he asked me to represent him.

“I think that answers the question that was asked earlier. It’s just a town hall meeting, not a real debate.”
