Agents from the Delta State Police Command arrested 10 suspects in the shooter’s neighborhood in the Emuhu neighborhood of the northeastern local government area of Ica in the state.
The arrests followed credible intelligence on syndicates specializing in locally made guns and other weapons, PUNCH Metro collected.
It is understood that under this premise, the national command police chief, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, dispatched the national anti-cult unit to conduct intensive raids in the area.
As a result, a team led by SACU Commander SP Christopher Igbaji raided the hideout in the Ika Emuhu community northeast of the LGA on 31 October 2022, during which time 42 locally-made single-barrel guns, 6 double-barrel guns, 3 pump action guns, two filing machines and a toolbox containing tools for working with fabrication materials were recovered.
Suspected gang leader Peter Okolie (58) from Agba Quarters Emuhu and nine others were arrested with the exhibit.
The command’s public relations officer Brett Edafy confirmed the incident, telling reporters that all suspects are currently in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the police commissioner praised the team’s successful operation, as he assured residents of the state that the command would not relax in its fight against crime and criminal activity.
The Christian Post notes that “active policing and community police are key to this fight.”
He urged everyone to continue working with the command to provide useful, timely and credible information to help the command nip crime in the bud.
