Chief Mabuzulik Amech, Nigeria’s first aviation minister and member of the first Republic leader, has died at the age of 93.

Chief Amechi died in the early hours of Tuesday, November 1, according to a press statement released Tuesday by Ezeana Tagbo’s family.

Amechi, from Amihe village in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area, Anambra State, is a nationalist and the only surviving member of the Zikist movement.

The statement read: “The family of Ume Amechi, Ezeana Ihinede and the family of Umu Mmara of Amihe Ukpor of the Nnewi South Local Government Area, Anambra State, in full respect of the will of Almighty God, proclaim the peaceful transition of our illustrious son, father and grandfather, Federation of Nigeria RNP and First Republic Aviation Minister Chief Mbazulik Amech (Dara Aquinwafo), peaceful transition in the early hours of November 1, 2022.

“We thank God for the life he lived, the life he touched, and the service to God and country. We respectfully ask you to keep us in your thoughts and prayers during this time.”
