Ondo State Governor Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu reiterated that the safety of citizens’ lives and property remains his government’s top priority as he seeks support from relevant stakeholders to combat crime.

He commended the national security agencies, the Amotekun Corps and other conventional security agencies for their efforts to combat insecurity in the state, and pledged to continue to provide the state’s security agencies with the necessary support to effectively fight crime and ensure a crime-free environment.

Akredolu made the statement at the office of the governor of Akure, Aragbaka, the state capital, when pro-democracy and human rights group Democracy presented him with the Safety Excellence Award and the Good Governance Award.

The governor, represented by his senior special assistant for security affairs, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, said that the creation of the Amotekun Corps in January 2020 initiated “zero tolerance” for crime in the southwest, and revealed that a fourth group of Amotekun personnel was recently deployed in Ondo state. 18 local government areas to further protect people’s lives and property and reduce crime in the state.

He said: “This government has been unassuming since its inception and has never shied away from monthly grants to all security agencies in Ondo state. Combat vehicles equipped with modern security equipment are also regularly procured and distributed. Hundreds of also procured motorcycles and distributed to 18 local government areas in the state to facilitate intelligence gathering.

“Recently, around 50 security vehicles equipped with modern security equipment were procured and distributed to all security agencies in the state to improve their operational efficiency. Also, there is unity and strong synergy among security agencies including the Amotekun Corps effect.

“Since then, there has been a viable synergy between the leadership of the traditional security agencies and Amotekun, which has led to great success, arresting crimes before they even occur.”
