Some Nigerian lawyers have announced the establishment of another professional body different from the Nigerian Bar Association.

The parallel body known as the Nigerian Law Society is headed by Mr Kunle Ogunba (SAN).

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Mr Douglas Ogbankwa, LSN’s national propaganda minister.

The state’s Ogbankwa said LSN emerged to redefine the thinking of the founders of the legal profession, describing the new association as “the new sheriff in town.”

He said the LSN was established to align Nigerian legal practice with international best practice.

“In order to redefine the idea of the founders of the Nigerian legal profession, the Nigerian Bar Association was formed, a new professional association for lawyers known as the Nigerian Bar Association.

“This is in line with international best practice and allows for an alternative to ensuring lawyers thrive in fields that share their values,” he said.

According to Ogbankwa, in a letter dated October 24, the LSN’s interim national executive committee informed the judge body of the association’s existence and its state officials.

Meanwhile, our reporters’ attempts to get the NBA’s reaction on Sunday failed.

NBA President Mr. Yakubu Maikyau (SAN); The Association’s Secretary General, Mr. Adesina Adegbite, did not answer calls on their mobile phone lines.

They also did not respond to text messages and WhatsApp messages sent to their lines.

Our reporters reported that their phones rang, but they were busy answering them and then switched off.
